The première of the latest feature film by Simon Galiero, La Mise à l'aveugle, is opening the 41st edition of Festival du nouveau cinéma on October 10 at the Théâtre Maisonneuve. The film will also be playing in the festival on October 13, with theatrical release set for December 2012. The film tells the story of Denise, a worn-out woman who, in rediscovering her childhood neighbourhood, recovers her taste for life. Since 1998 Simon Galiero has made several documentary and fiction shorts, including Encore dimanche and L‘Immigré. In 1998 he also became co-publisher of the electronic film magazine Hors Champ. Since 2005, he has also written articles for Le Devoir and Cahiers du Cinéma, in addition to being a member of the editorial committee of the magazine 24 Images. In 2008, he won the Jutra award for best short or medium-length film for his independent production Notre prison est un royaume, which is distributed by Vidéographe. Nuages sur la ville won the best Canadian film award at the Festival du nouveau cinéma in 2009.
