Vidéographe
Victoria Film Festival

Two films distributed by Vidéographe will be shown at the Victoria Film Festival.

Renaud Hallée’s film Combustion will be screened in Victoria on February 9 at 7:15 p.m. In this magnificent experimental video, the artist uses fire as visual and musical material. Renaud Hallée composes music out of visual systems. His short musical films have been shown in numerous film festivals around the world, including the Flanders film festival in Ghent and the Ottawa and Annecy animation festivals.

On February 11 at 12:15 p.m. Marie-Josée Saint-Pierre’s Le Projet Sapporo will be screened. This short animated film is a poetic ode to the work of the Japanese calligrapher Gazanbou Higuchi. An unusual window onto the world of calligraphy, this animated film is a look at an artist in the act of creation. In the space of a short film, his work is animated, transporting the viewer into the secret world of his imagination. The filmmaker’s technique presents a new approach to documentary filmmaking by blurring the lines between documentary and fiction. The recipient of numerous awards, film director and animator Saint-Pierre has made several short animated and documentary films, including Post-Partum, Passages and McLaren’s Negatives, which won the 2007 Jutra award for best animated film.
